Released on October 3, the Emma Myllynen x Paapii collaboration collection is a story of light in the pine forest – of how the changing seasons and times of day paint the woods in ever new ways. The collection was born from the Young Finnish Design print competition, which highlights young designers and brings fresh perspectives to Finnish design. Now, the prints by Emma Myllynen shine in Paapii’s women’s clothing line.
Daybreak and Expedition – two different moods
The prints of Emma Myllynen carry the wearer into the light of forest in two very different ways. Daybreak radiates delicacy and calm – it is that moment just before dawn when the world is still quiet. Expedition, on the other hand, is a playful adventure into the depths of the forest, like a whisper of the woods that never reveals everything at once but leaves room for imagination.
Both prints combine the rawness and layered quality of hand-drawn detail, making every garment unique. Inspiration comes from fleeting moments of light in nature, but also from the patterns of Japanese kimonos and the bold aesthetics of camouflage trends.
Timeless favorites for everyday wear
The Emma Myllynen x Paapii collection is built around clothing designed to endure over time and feel good to wear day after day. It includes familiar Paapii pieces like the timeless Routa sweatshirt dress and the feminine Heija tunic. Everyday essentials like the versatile Maini top and Verna sweatshirt – with Verna being a brand-new design – also feature the prints, alongside the comfortable Pinja and Aina trousers and Sorja leggings. Emma’s personal favorite is the Aina trousers in the Expedition print – the perfect blend of comfort and bold design.
The colour palette of the collection is inspired by the forest and nature’s own shades: rich dark green, gentle coffee, crisp herb, and golden caramel come together in a balanced palette that remains timeless year after year. Every garment is made from organic cotton in Paapii’s own sewing factory in Kokkola.
According to Emma, the prints also hold a strong emotional meaning: “I hope the clothes in the collection give their wearer a small moment of pause – as if stepping into the forest’s embrace. With the Expedition print, my goal was to capture both a playfulness and a touch of rawness, reflecting the spirit I had in mind while designing it. Daybreak, in contrast, carries a softer, more tranquil mood, and I hope those who wear it experience its calming and comforting nature.”
